The name "Wuhan" came from the city's historical origin from the Yangtze River and the Han River traverse the urban area of Wuhan, dividing Wuhan forming a pattern of three place in Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, which are collectively called "Wuhan Three Towns". As a transportation hub, it is one of the largest railway hubs and one of the aviation and highway hubs for passenger traffic in China.
